The worship life of a church is where everything begins. Each Lord’s Day, we practice what it means to be followers of Jesus. Through prayer and praise, scripture, preaching, and sacrament, we remember who we are and reaffirm our commitment to belong to God and serve each other.
Rev. Morgan Daughety
Senior Minister
Worship
Sunday begins at First Christian Church at 10:00 a.m. with Sunday School, as well as various gatherings for conversation and study. Most groups meet in our education building, adjacent to the sanctuary. (NOTE: As we return to normal following the restrictions of the pandemic, we have not yet begun having these 10:00 a.m. meetings, but we hope to do so soon!)
Worship is at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. We have a traditional worship service led by lay leaders and the minister, as well as piano and organ music and a choir. The theme of our service follows the Revised Common Lectionary, which is a three-year cycle of scripture readings taken from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, which lead us through the Christian Year from Advent to Pentecost.
Location and Parking
Our church building has occupied the corner of Church and Main Streets in Farmville for more than a century. The front doors to the sanctuary face the intersection, and a handicapped entrance can be utilized from the parking lot on the Church Street side of the building. The campus interior includes a covered porch, beneath which there are doors to our fellowship hall and kitchen.
There is a small parking lot owned by the church right along Church Street. Visitors are welcome there. On Sundays, parking is also available in adjacent lots at BB&T, the Farmville Public Library, and across Main Street at the Pitt Community College satellite campus. Where permitted, parking on the street in Farmville is free.
Children
Children of all ages are welcome in our worship service. There are other options, as well.
Childcare is available during our Church School hour and during worship. Children in our nursery are cared for by a trained professional. Young children typically begin the worship hour with their parents in the sanctuary, and, following the children’s time with the minister, they are escorted to Children Worship and Wonder with an experienced volunteer member of First Christian Church. Every effort is made to keep your child safe and engaged.
