GIVE

Established in 1854, First Christian Church in Farmville is a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) We’ve been located on the corner of Church and Main streets for 169 years!

I want…

I want a church that loves so radically that we are always putting up chairs to make room for more, turning no one away.

I want a church that loves so creatively that we are willing to dismantle structures, traditions, and processes that dishonor humanity and marginalize any among us.

I want a church that loves so completely that we are not satisfied until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.

I want a church that follows Jesus and is therefore committed to work for all of this.

Prayer by Rev. Terri Hord Owens, General Minister and President—Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

FCC may have been standing on this spot for 169 years but, just like everyone else, we’ve had to learn to be flexible and willing to change our way of thinking when it comes to finding our footing in this new world. While we were unable to gather and worship in the old ways, we learned to adapt and appreciate the new ways. Our focus was shifted from inside our beautiful sanctuary to outside in God’s beautiful world with its beautiful people.

Our Mission Statement

It is the mission of First Christian Church of Farmville (Disciples of Christ) to provide an environment where all who come can learn, fellowship, worship, and grow spiritually closer to God. We will fulfill our greater obligation to spread the good news of Jesus Christ by being of service to the members of our community and the world. Our efforts and activities will be done in the name of Jesus Christ.

As members of the Christian Church,
We confess that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of the living God,
and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world.
In Christ’s name and by his grace
we accept our mission of witness
and service to all people.
We rejoice in God,
maker of heaven and earth,
and in God’s covenant of love
which binds us to God and to one another.
Through baptism into Christ
we enter into newness of life
and are made one with the whole people of God.
In the communion of the Holy Spirit
we are joined together in discipleship
and in obedience to Christ.
At the Table of the Lord
we celebrate with thanksgiving
the saving acts and presence of Christ.
Within the universal church
we receive the gift of ministry
and the light of scripture.
In the bonds of Christian faith
we yield ourselves to God
that we may serve the One
whose kingdom has no end.
Blessing, glory, and honor
be to God forever. Amen.
